The Director of Parks and Recreation is the administrative head of the Parks and Recreation Department, reporting to the City Manager. This position is responsible for managing four divisions: Administration, Recreation, Parks Maintenance and Facilities Maintenance. For fiscal year 2009-10; the Parks and Recreation Department has an operating budget of $5.3 million, with a staff of 20 full time and 50 part-time employees.
Duties of this position include preparing agenda items for the City Council, Parks and Recreation Commission and other Boards regarding department issues and operations; supervising and managing the maintenance of 135 acres of parks and sports fields and nine City buildings; managing the development and administration of leisure service programs for youth, adults and senior citizens including contract classes, community-wide special events and seasonal activities; and supervising the management contract for the operation of the Citys 18 hole municipal golf course.
The monthly salary range is $10,251 - $12,460. There is a 5% furlough cut in effect at this time. PERS is 2% at 55 with the City making the 7% employee contribution.

Requirements
The ideal candidate will have a thorough knowledge of the practices of municipal leisure services, senior citizen services, park and facility maintenance, project development and project management. The candidate must also demonstrate substantial experience in reach out to and working with community stakeholder groups to address current and long-term leisure service needs.
All candidates must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Leisure Studies, Public Administration, or related field.
