Apple Fire Burns Over 26,000 Acres

A wildfire north of Beaumont had burned 26,850 acres and was 7% contained as of Monday.CalFire investigators say they’ve already pinpointed the cause of the Apple Fire, which has sent plumes of smoke all the way to Phoenix, Arizona. Investigators say a diesel-vehicle emitting burning carbon malfunctioned.

Evacuees are being directed to Beaumont High School. The Red Cross is on site assisting those impacted by the fire.

John Medina with the American Red Cross told KESQ that distancing remains difficult.

“The biggest challenge and if you talk to any red crossers, we’re used to the close contact. I mean that’s part of the recovery of a disaster is that you have to show warmth and love and caring and that’s hard when you’re standing six feet away so that’s the biggest challenge.”
