Court Issues Temporary Restraining Order Against Ventura County Church
Ventura County officials have been granted a temporary restraining order against a church run by former Thousand Oaks mayor Rob McCoy.
McCoy is the pastor of Godspeak Calvary Chapel in Newbury Park. The church has been holding regular services in violation of a county health order for months with “singing, hugging, no masks,” McCoy boasts, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.
McCoy stepped down from the City Council because of the controversy in April.
“It is only a matter of time — if it has not already happened — before there is a significant outbreak of COVID-19 cases among the attendees,” Ventura County Health Officer Dr. Robert Levin said in a lawsuit seeking a restraining order to halt the church’s services.
On Friday, the Ventura County Superior Court granted the county’s request. Godspeak Calvary went forward with its regular Sunday services anyway. The county now wants the pastor held in contempt.
