Hipolito Angel Cerros made history one year ago when he became the mayor of Lindsay, California. At 24 years old, Cerros took the title as the youngest mayor in the state and the youngest to ever serve in Lindsay.
Cerros was first elected to the city council in 2020, while he was still attending UC Davis.
“I secured a seat on the city council and juggled those boards and committees with my school demands. It was difficult, but I was able to transfer what I was learning right into the real world,” he told UC Davis Magazine.
He says the University of California Washington Program was invaluable in preparing him for his role as mayor. He also credits his professors with giving him the knowledge he needed for the job.
Cerros is busy at work, trying to boost Lindsay’s economy and revitalize its downtown. Eventually, he hopes to serve in Congress. He’s also planning on going to law school – and he has plenty of time to do it all.
