The City of San Diego is seeking a Chief Building Official. With a population of more than 1.43 million residents, the City of San Diego is California’s second-largest city and the eighth-largest city in the United States. The City is one of the most ethnically and culturally diverse places in the nation, with more than 100 languages spoken by residents. The Chief Building Official will plan, organize, and manage the operations of the Building Construction & Safety Division. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader who is passionate, highly motivated, organized, a team player, and someone who has a high level of political acumen. Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in engineering, construction management, architecture, public or business administration, or a related field and five (5) years of increasingly responsible management experience in a large public agency with three (3) years in a supervisory capacity. A Master’s degree is preferred, but not mandatory. The annual salary range for the incoming Chief Building Official is $139,000-$155,000; placement within this range is dependent upon qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
