The City of Benicia, a San Francisco Bay waterfront community of 28,000, is known for its small-town charm and quality of life, nestled on the East Bay shoreline in southwest Solano County. The City encompasses 13 square miles and is located 35 miles northeast of San Francisco, and 57 miles southwest of Sacramento. Founded in 1847, and the third California city to incorporate, Benicia served as the third State Capitol in 1853 and 1854. These three (3) Deputy Public Works Directors will be appointed by the Public Works Director, Kyle Ochenduszko, who joined Benicia in 2019. Mr. Ochenduszko recently gained Council approval for a phenomenal department reorganization which will ensure sound stability for the City of Benicia. His management style encourages creativity, innovation, accountability, and excellence, as well as collaboration, teamwork, communication, transparency, and patience. He has gained the support of our community who has voiced their readiness for this change.
The Public Works Director seeks a (1) Deputy Public Works Director – City Engineer, to serve as the City’s Engineer of Record while designing/delivering capital projects, a (2) Deputy Public Works Director – Operations, to help the City efficiently deliver public services while maintaining existing infrastructure, and a (3) Deputy Public Works Director – Utilities, to manage the City’s water and wastewater enterprises to protect health and the environment. Because there is a need for proactive, ongoing communication with the Public Works Director, executive staff, department team members, and the community, the new Deputy Public Works Directors will help to facilitate a team-oriented and collaborative work environment, and focus on the betterment of the entire city operation and the community.
The annual salary range is $152,988 - $185,964 per year, DOQ. The City also offers a $15,000 hiring incentive, along with a comprehensive and competitive benefit package.
