This position is responsible for a variety of ongoing operational responsibilities including, but not limited to:

· Evaluate proposed development projects and conduct field surveys during and upon completion of projects ensuring compliance with architectural, zoning and general plan requirements; 

· Coordinate advanced planning and historic preservation activities including research, analysis, development and implementation of actions/solutions;

· Determine projects’ environmental impact in accordance with the CA Environmental Quality Act;

· Prepare and present staff reports for Development Review Committee, Historic Preservation Commission, Planning Commission, and City Council;

· Confer with, advise, and provide customer service to architects, engineers, attorneys, developers and the general public regarding City development procedures and processes; and

· Perform related duties as assigned.


Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, abilities and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the qualifications would be: 

BA/BS in planning or related field and five (5) years experience in municipal planning. MA/MS is desirable.  Experience working with diverse groups and the ability to exercise cultural sensitivity and awareness, and municipal experience are highly desirable. 


Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License and a good driving record.
