The City of Stockton is seeking to fill a Principal Civil Engineer position to oversee a Development Engineering Section in the Stockton Permit Center under the Community Development Department. The Principal Civil Engineer will be responsible for managing engineering staff that perform reviews of improvement plans for public infrastructure, subdivision maps, lot line adjustments/mergers in accordance with the Subdivision Map Act, all for the ultimate consideration and approval by the City Engineer; and issue encroachment permits for all construction and related activities that occur within the City of Stockton rights-of-way. The successful candidate has extensive experience applying and upholding improvement standards and specifications, understanding and capabilities in applying the California Subdivision Map Act, and possesses strong leadership skills and capabilities in applying responsible engineering judgment.

This is the management level in the professional engineering series. Incumbents in this class possess considerable professional engineering knowledge and exercise considerable independent judgment and initiative, while overseeing the development engineering work program. The ideal candidate will be effective in leading and managing engineering staff and on-call consultants that support and supplement staff in the delivery of the development engineering work program.  

Incumbents work a City of Stockton 9/80 schedule: 7:30am to 5:30pm Monday through Thursday; 8:00am to 5:00pm Friday, with alternating Fridays off. May be required to work additional hours and/or weekends to provide critical support to key initiatives.

Education/Experience:
Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in Civil Engineering or a closely related field and seven (7) years of paid professional civil engineering experience, including two years of experience at the level of senior civil engineer or equivalent. 
Must possess a valid Class C California driver license.
Must possess a valid California Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer.
